Luis Caldas de Oliveira is Deputy Director of iStartLab, the innovation laboratory of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). He has been teaching signal processing and entrepreneurship courses at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, where he was also Vice President for Entrepreneurship, Corporate Relations and Technology Transfer for 6 years. He has been a researcher at INESC-ID for 35+ years, where he was also director in charge of administrative affairs for 4 years. He is a Member of the Board of Lispolis, Lisbon’s Science and Technology Park. His research interests include speech processing, innovation and entrepreneurship. In 1991 he co-authored the DIXI system, the first text-to-speech synthesizer for European Portuguese. Voiceinteraction S.A., a company he co-founded in 2008, is currently selling an updated version of this system.
