About The Speaker
A creator and investor, Sheel Mohnot leads the 500 Startups FinTech Fund and accelerator. His startup experience includes founding 2 fintech companies with successful exits, one being FeeFighters, as well as co-founded a food and health company called Thistle. He advised some big names, like Coinbase, Instacart and Flexport and runs a startup podcast called The Pitch (sold to Gimlet media), where founders pitch investors. He formerly worked as a financial services consultant at BCG and started his FinTech career at the non-profit P2P lender Kiva. Sheel holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a BS in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon. Sheel is helping to design, build, and improve human ecosystems through technology. He is particularly interested in "financial services for the rest of us" – financial innovation that helps those who feel abandoned by the current financial system. Sheel has been quoted in a number of publications on both his business and private life, some of his work has been featured in giants such as The Atlantic and The New York Times, and he has been a regular public speaker on topics of financial innovation, entrepreneurship, social innovation, and the revolution taking place in payments/point of sale.
